Paywhere

Building a brand for the next era of banking.

Project Overview

Paywhere helps financial institutions prepare for the next era of commercial banking through API-first infrastructure and AI-enabled solutions. As the company prepared to launch its products into the U.S. market, it needed a brand and website that articulated the challenges facing banks today while positioning Paywhere as the solution.

The Challenge

Paywhere is introducing a new category to the market: programmable banking. The challenge was twofold — establishing this new category while educating financial institutions on why they need to evolve as AI transforms how businesses and customers interact.

As an emerging category and a new company, Paywhere needed a brand that established credibility, reflecting the deep expertise of its leadership team across banking, fintech, AI, and software development.

The Process

Paywhere assembled a team of specialists to bring the brand to life. Ryan DeGama of Midtown Mystery developed the brand story and messaging framework, defining how Paywhere communicates its vision and shaping the category of programmable banking. Building on that strategic foundation, Heyya created a visual identity designed to reflect both the company and the category it was defining. To capture concepts that had never been seen before, we worked with illustrator Ian Macfarlane to develop a custom illustration style that gave abstract ideas a visual language.

The "P" monogram uses three defined sections in tones of blue to represent movement, connection, and the exchange of information across financial ecosystems. A flexible and vibrant colour palette supports the illustration style. Together with a precise geometric wordmark and highly readable typography, these elements create a brand that feels modern and professional, yet approachable, designed to reflect the credibility of the team behind it. Supporting marketing collateral, one-pagers, and a whitepaper template ensure the team can communicate consistently across sales, marketing, and investor relations.

The Results

A Category-Defining Brand

Paywhere now has a strong, distinctive brand that reflects both the new category it is creating and its ambition for the future. The new identity, website, illustration system, and supporting marketing assets provide a scalable foundation for future growth.

The project resulted in:

  • Visual identity and brand standards
  • Custom illustration library
  • SEO foundational setup, keyword research, and metadata
  • Squarespace website generating over 2,000 pageviews since launching in late April 2026, with visitors to the site's "How programmable banking is reshaping finance" article spending over 2.5 times longer on page than the site average
  • Marketing assets and brand collateral

This foundation positions Paywhere to lead the programmable banking category as it enters the U.S. market.

Performance Highlights

THE GOOD WORD

Shannon at Heyya came recommended, and I loved the aesthetic of the work she'd done for other companies. The project ran smoothly, deadlines were met, and Shannon was lovely to work with. We now have a brand and website that support the category we're building. I would absolutely recommend Shannon to anyone looking for a thoughtful, reliable branding and web design partner.
